JULY KIDS CARE

CHARITY:

The San Diego Food Bank, with the help of the San Diego Fire Department and San Diego City Firefighters Local 145, will be holding their first annual "Firehouse Food Drive" to benefit hungry San Diegans in need. Your donation can be brought to fire stations throughout the county between July 16 and July 30, 2008. Supporting people in the community that do not have enough to eat helps in many ways. You are helping someone’s mind and body heal and become healthy, plus it will make you feel good that you were a part of helping someone in need. The San Diego Food Bank helps to provide food and services to over 160,000 San Diegans every month! SOCIAL:

Summertime is the most popular season for hanging out at the beach and swimming in the ocean. During 2007, "Coastkeeper’s" 2,800 beach cleanup volunteers collected 103,000 pieces of trash off of beaches running from the US-Mexico border to the city of Oceanside. The total weight of trash collected was - get ready- three and a half tons! It is a big job keeping these areas clean. But with the help of organizations like "Coastkeepers" and "I Love A Clean San Diego" you can learn how to do your part to keep our beaches free of trash and contamination during the summer months. Check out the "I Love A Clean San Diego" web site at www.ilacsd.org to find out more about keeping our ocean and beaches clean.

FRUIT:

The month of July is celebrated as National Blueberry Month in the United States. The US grows more blueberries than any other country in the world. Blueberries are full of antioxidants - these give you energy, help keep toxins out of your blood, and keep your body healthy and happy. Next time you shop at Jimbo’s, check out our organic blueberries - grown by farmers right here in San Diego county!

DID YOU KNOW?

Many of us are familiar with grass - watering it, playing on it... but did you know there is a grass that is good for humans and pets to EAT? Wheatgrass gives both you and your pet energy, keeps blood free of toxins, provides some protein, contains vitamins and minerals, and helps food digest! It is a natural instinct for pets like dogs and cats, birds, reptiles, guinea pigs, and other small animals to eat grass when they are feeling ill or hungry. Wheat grass is grown from sprouted wheat grains and will make your pet feel happy and healthy! You can juice the wheat grass and mix it with their food, or pour some in their water dish. Another fun way to watch your pet eat the grass is to serve it directly from the container it grows in- just like they are eating it from the ground! Make your pet smile and pick up some wheat grass the next time you are shopping at Jimbo’s!
